Nick Ramm, Zhenya Strigalev Duo/Quartet
Saxophone virtuoso Zhenya Strigalev has performed in Kremlin in Moscow and the Purcell Room in London and he received a full scholarship to attend the Royal Academy Of Music. Since graduating he has formed an essential part of the local jazz scene. The couple met in the now defunct central London club 'Shinos' and the excellent rapport between Strigalev and Ramm was born. Performing jazz and latin classics, as well as some original material, this duo realizes the previously unexplored potential of a St Petersburg and London jazz sound. They released an album of original music called 'Off The Cut' in 2006 - a quartet recording with Dave Whitford on double bass and Gene Calderazzo on drums. In may 2010 they opened the 'Partager' festival at Kings Place with an ode to Django Reinhardt. His classic tunes were set within Strigalev and Ramm's own grooves and motifs. |
